Why a shared link may be unavailable

An unavailable share link can no longer open its content, but the message does not identify the exact cause.

Get a current link from the person who shared it

An unavailable-link message means that the URL can no longer open its shared content. It does not identify the exact reason.

Common reasons

  • The person who shared it disabled the link.

  • The person who shared it deleted the link.

  • The person who shared it reset the link, so the earlier URL is no longer current.

  • The URL was copied incompletely or is an older version of the link.

What to do

  • If you received the link, ask the person who shared it to send you the current one.

  • If you own the link, open its sharing controls to check its status. Enable an existing disabled link, or create and copy a new link if the old one was reset or deleted.

A password-protected link asks for its password instead of showing an unavailable-link message. If you see a password prompt, ask the person who shared it for the password.

When to contact support

If a newly enabled link remains unavailable after it is copied again, contact support with the shared-link address and item name.
