Which audio files receive waveform and analysis data?

Waveform and audio analysis apply only to eligible audio files. Traklist processes them after the file has transferred.

Eligible audio formats

  • The cross-surface audio formats are .aac, .aif, .aifc, .aiff, .flac, .m4a, .mp3, .ogg, and .wav.

  • Other file types can be stored in Traklist, but they do not receive a waveform or audio analysis.

When analysis is ready

  • A completed transfer does not mean processing is complete. After an audio file transfers, it enters Processing while Traklist prepares its audio information.

  • Once processing finishes, the file can have waveform and analysis data. Keep the file's status in mind before assuming data is missing.

What Traklist processes

  • Eligible audio is processed for a waveform and loudness information, including integrated LUFS.

  • Duration, sample rate, and bit depth can also be available when Traklist can read them.

  • For audio up to 20 minutes long, Traklist attempts to detect BPM, key, and scale. When detection does not return a result, the file shows No BPM or No Key instead of a blank field.

  • Longer audio still receives waveform and loudness processing, but Traklist does not attempt BPM, key, or scale detection.

Player and sharing boundaries

  • Web and iPhone use processed waveform data for playable audio.

  • On iPhone, the expanded player includes live visualizers and meters. Those describe current playback; they are not extra stored upload analysis.

  • A public Web share can use waveform and loudness data when it is available, but it does not promise a separate view of every audio-analysis detail.

  • Images, documents, projects, presets, MIDI files, and archives do not receive audio waveform or analysis data.

Important to know

Audio analysis appears only after a supported file finishes processing. If the waveform or LUFS data is missing, confirm the format is eligible and wait for processing to finish. A file that shows No BPM or No Key has finished processing without a detection result — or is longer than 20 minutes.
