Every person in a shared folder has one role, and that role decides what they can do.

The four roles

• Owner — the person who owns the folder. There is only one.

• Admin — Manage all but the owner.

• Editor — View, listen and edit.

• Viewer — View and listen only.

What each role can do

• Everyone can browse and play what is in the folder.

• Owners, Admins, and Editors can download, copy to My Library, upload, edit metadata and artwork, rename the folder, delete contents, reorganize, and save a custom order. Viewers cannot.

• Owners and Admins can invite people, change roles, manage public links, and view Insights. Editors and Viewers cannot.

• Only the Owner can grant Admin, and only the Owner can move or delete the shared folder itself.

• Everyone except the Owner can leave the folder.

What view-only access looks like

• Traklist shows You have view-only access while you are in the folder, and marks rows View only.

• Choosing an action a Viewer cannot use explains that the folder was shared with view-only access, and that you can play and browse but not add or change files.

Direct and inherited access

• Direct access comes from an invitation to that exact folder.

• Inherited access comes from a folder further up, shown as Access via that folder, and is changed there.

• Ordinary subfolders inside a shared folder inherit its access.

Note — A role is not a plan. A Viewer on Pro is still on Pro, and an Editor on Free is still on Free. Roles decide what you can do in one folder; your plan decides your storage and Pro features.

Who gets notified

Owners and Admins receive notifications about activity in the folder. Everyone who is invited receives their own invitation, whatever role they are given.

Troubleshooting

If an action is unavailable, check your role on the folder. If your role looks right but the action is still unavailable, your access may be inherited from a folder further up, and the role there is the one that applies.
