Choose recording channels, formats, and naming

Recording settings control how new takes are captured and named before a recording begins.

Open recording settings

On the recording screen, tap the settings control to choose the file format, audio channel, save location, and naming behavior for future recordings.

Choose a format

  • M4A / AAC — 44.1 kHz, 16-bit, 256 kbps.

  • Lossless ALAC — 44.1 kHz, 24-bit, saved as an .m4a file.

  • WAV PCM — 48 kHz, 24-bit, saved as a .wav file.

Choose a channel

Mono is available on every plan. Stereo is a Pro feature.

Choose how recordings are named

Numbered naming names recordings in sequence. Location naming uses your iPhone location, with the City, Neighborhood, or Address detail you choose in settings; location naming needs location permission.

Know the defaults

New accounts start with M4A / AAC, Mono, and the Current save location.

Troubleshooting

If a recording uses unexpected settings, reopen the recording settings before the next take. Changes apply to future recordings.
