Folder Artwork Assignment decides what artwork new audio starts with. It applies to future uploads only, and changing it never touches existing files.
The two choices
Match Folder is the default. New audio placed directly in an existing folder begins with that folder's artwork.
Vary Per File gives each new audio file different artwork.
Note — With Match Folder, a folder's custom artwork is copied onto newly added audio as a snapshot. Changing the folder artwork later does not update those files.
Change the setting
On Web — open Settings, choose Display, then Folder Artwork Assignment. Select Match Folder or Vary Per File.
On iPhone — tap your profile avatar on Home, choose Settings, then Folder Artwork Assignment. Select Match Folder or Vary Per File. You need an internet connection to change this setting.
Where the rule applies
The rule is for audio files added after you choose it. Existing file artwork stays as it is.
New audio added to the My Library root gets different artwork under either choice.
On Web folder uploads, Match Folder gives each new folder its own artwork with the audio inside matching it. Vary Per File gives each new folder and audio file different artwork.
On iPhone, the rule applies to individual audio files, including files uploaded in Traklist or sent from the iPhone Share Sheet.
This setting assigns artwork to audio. It does not change a folder's existing artwork.
Useful tips
Choose Match Folder when a folder's artwork should be a consistent visual label for the new audio you place in it.
Choose Vary Per File when each new audio file should have different artwork.
Troubleshooting
If new audio keeps receiving the wrong artwork, confirm whether the setting is Match Folder or Vary Per File, save it, then upload again. Remember the rule affects new audio only.
