Record audio in Traklist

Capture a voice note, demo, or take right inside Traklist, and save it straight into your library.

Before you record

  • Allow Traklist to use your microphone when iPhone asks.

  • Recording works on Free and Pro. Free includes mono recording; Pro adds stereo and backing-track tools.

  • Your recording uses the storage available on your plan. Free includes 2 GB; Pro includes 3 TB.

  • Choose a quiet place and close any other audio source using the microphone.

Start and control a recording

  1. Tap Create New.

  2. Choose Record.

  3. Tap the large Record button to start.

  • Tap the button again to pause or resume.

  • After you capture audio, Retry and Save appear. The recorder also shows the file name, format, timer, and live pitch and decibel readings.

  • Retry asks you to confirm before discarding the unsaved take and starting again.

  • Press and hold Create New to open the recorder. It does not begin recording by itself.

  • The iPhone Shortcuts action Start Record opens Traklist and starts recording immediately.

Save your recording

  • Choose Save when you are happy with the take.

  • Current saves to the folder you were viewing when you opened Record. If you started from Home, it saves to My Library.

  • The recorder's quick setting switches between Current and My Library.

  • When you record while offline, Traklist saves the take to My Library and syncs it later.

  • After saving, the recording appears inline and can show Queued, Uploading, Processing, or Sync Failed. See Understand uploading, importing, and processing statuses for the full status guide.

Note — If you leave Record with an unsaved take, Traklist shows Leave Record? Leaving deletes the unsaved recording, and it cannot be recovered.

Set up the next take

Before you record, use the recorder's settings button to adjust how the next take is saved.

  • Format choices are M4A (AAC), Lossless (ALAC), and WAV (PCM).

  • M4A is the default: 44.1 kHz, 16-bit, 256 kbps. It is the smallest, fastest option.

  • Lossless is 44.1 kHz, 24-bit, and saves as an .m4a file.

  • WAV is 48 kHz, 24-bit, and saves as a .wav file. It uses the most storage.

  • Choose Mono for a single channel. Stereo records two channels and requires Pro.

  • Use Numbered names for sequential takes. Location names can add your city, neighborhood, or address, and require Location access.

Record with a backing track

  • Use Add backing track in the recorder, or Add Recording from an existing audio file's action menu.

  • The existing file becomes the backing track for the new recording.

  • Traklist saves the result as one mixed audio file. It does not create separate editable tracks or stems.

  • When you record from an existing Traklist audio file, the new recording keeps that source file's artwork.

Pro — Backing tracks and Add Recording require Pro.

Troubleshooting

  • If recording will not start, close any other audio source using the microphone.

  • If you see Microphone in Use, close the other audio source, then try again.

  • If you denied microphone access, enable Microphone for Traklist in iPhone Settings, then reopen Record.

  • For a Sync Failed recording, use the file's Retry control after fixing the connection or storage problem.

  • If a take is lost, check that you saved it before leaving Record. Discarded unsaved takes cannot be recovered.
