Import files and folders from Dropbox

Use Dropbox import to add files or a complete Dropbox folder tree directly to My Library or an existing folder, without first downloading everything to your computer.

Before you start

  • Connect the Dropbox account that contains the files you want to import.

  • Your destination must have enough storage. Free includes 2 GB; Pro includes 3 TB.

  • Each individual imported file must be 5 GB or smaller.

  • This flow can import more than audio files. Video files are not supported.

Start an import

  1. Open the destination folder, or stay in a root view to import to My Library.

  2. Choose Create New.

  3. Choose Import from Dropbox.

Where the import lands:

  • An open folder — the import destination is that folder.

  • Home, My Library, or another root view — the destination is My Library.

  • An empty folder also shows an Import from Dropbox button.

Connect Dropbox

  • The first time you import, choose Connect Dropbox.

  • Approve the connection in Dropbox. Traklist returns you to the same location and reopens the import picker.

  • When connected, the picker shows Connected as followed by the Dropbox email address.

  • Choose Sign out in the picker to disconnect or switch Dropbox accounts.

  • If Traklist cannot reach Dropbox before connecting, choose Try again.

Browse and select

  • Use a folder row to open that Dropbox folder. Use its checkbox to select the folder itself for import.

  • Use the Dropbox breadcrumb to return to an earlier folder.

  • Search your Dropbox by name. Enter at least two characters before results load.

  • Select multiple individual files, folders, or both. Your selections stay selected while you browse and search.

  • Use Load more when the current Dropbox folder has more results.

  • The footer shows the selected count and an Import to [destination] button.

  • There is no Select all control.

  • Video rows are disabled and marked Video not supported.

Import folders and files

  • Choose Import to [destination] to start the job.

  • A selected Dropbox folder is recreated inside the destination, along with its subfolders, including empty folders.

  • Loose selected files are added directly to the destination.

  • When an imported folder name already exists at the destination, Traklist gives the imported folder a unique name such as Project (1). It does not overwrite the existing folder.

  • Traklist applies your Folder Artwork Assignment setting to imported audio. With Match Folder, each imported folder receives its own default artwork and the audio directly inside it matches that folder. Loose audio can inherit custom artwork from the destination.

Watch the Uploads tray

  • After you start the import, the picker closes and the normal Uploads tray opens.

  • A folder import can take a moment to appear in the tray while Traklist builds the folder structure.

  • A Dropbox file first shows Importing… without a byte percentage, then can show Processing after the transfer finishes.

  • Wait for the file row to say Uploaded to followed by its destination. Importing, processing, and final completion are separate steps.

  • Upload Complete means the current import session has finished. Check the tray for skipped, canceled, or failed files.

Useful tips

  • Open the exact destination folder before choosing Import from Dropbox. The Create New button uses the folder you are viewing.

  • Select a project folder once when you want its hierarchy preserved. You do not need to select every child file.

  • Use the folder checkbox to select a folder, and its name to browse inside it.

  • Search with at least two characters, then use the result checkbox to add an item without leaving the results.

  • Import supported project files, presets, MIDI, documents, and images into the same folder when you want to keep a project together. Traklist may store a supported file even when it cannot preview it.

Troubleshooting

  • If Dropbox does not connect, confirm you are signed in to Dropbox and choose Try again.

  • If the picker says it could not load, your Dropbox connection may need to be refreshed. Choose Sign out, reconnect, then try again.

  • If the file row fails, is canceled, or shows Storage full, choose Retry after the underlying problem is resolved. For Storage full, free space or upgrade your plan first.

  • Use Cancel on an active file to stop that file. Use Cancel [number] in the tray to stop remaining imports in the session; Traklist asks you to confirm first.

  • A file over 5 GB cannot be retried until you use a smaller file.

  • If you see No files match your search, change the search words or browse to the folder instead.

  • If files do not appear, open the destination folder, check the Uploads tray, and retry any item marked Sync Failed.

  • For connection problems that keep coming back, see Fix Dropbox connection and import problems.
