Upload limits and filename rules

Use these rules to choose a file that will fit, upload successfully, and stay easy to identify later.

Check the file before you upload

  • A single file can be up to 5 GB.

  • An empty file cannot upload.

  • The file type must be supported. See What file types does Traklist support? for the full list.

  • The file must fit in the storage still available to you. Free includes 2 GB; Pro includes 3 TB.

Filename rules

  • On Web, a filename can be up to 512 characters.

  • In Web folder uploads and drags, files whose names begin with a period (.) are skipped.

Keep versions easy to find

  • You can add another file with the same name to the same destination. Traklist keeps both files and gives the newer one a number to distinguish it.

  • Use a clear version name before you upload, such as "Song Title - Mix 2", so it is obvious which file is newest.

If a file will not upload

  • If the file type is not supported, choose a supported version of the file.

  • If the file is over 5 GB, use a smaller file.

  • If your storage is full, free space or upgrade, then start the upload again.

  • If a transfer fails on Web, choose Retry from that file's row in the Uploads tray. On iPhone, choose Retry from the file's inline Sync Failed state.

  • A file can finish transferring before audio processing is complete. See Understand uploading, importing, and processing statuses for the difference.

Useful tips

  • Name bounces and exports with their version or date before uploading. It makes duplicates useful instead of confusing.

  • When you are close to your storage limit, upload the files you need first and clear space before adding a large batch.
